Almost 100 years ago, Gill Robertson’s forefathers put a stake in the ground at Woodside, a small rural community near Outram on the western edge of the Taieri Plain, and built themselves a small timber cottage.
Aptly named Cascata (Italian for ‘falling water’), the heavily glazed four tiered design protrudes from the dense forest mimicking a water fall. This is further accentuated on entry to the home, where the welcome courtyard greets you with a glass roof on stainless steel spacers, discreetly set to fall rain water into the riverstone lined ponds below.
Built by ‘Climate House’ on the Kelvin Heights waterfront, this low energy build combines the latest European driven passive house technologies and NZ designed triple glazed windows by Altus Window Systems with the ultimate lakeside position to create a state of the art energy efficient living experience.
The functional requirements of the brief were for a new Remarkables base building. Consisting of office space, ticketing, rental area, cafeteria and crèche.
